Char Dham Yatra: A Sacred Journey
Char Dham Yatra is one of the most famous pilgrimages in North India. This journey covers four sacred places in Uttarakhand: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. It is believed that anyone who visits all four dhams attains moksha (liberation).

Which are the Char Dham?

  1. Yamunotri – Origin of the Yamuna river. Temple dedicated to Goddess Yamuna.
  2. Gangotri – Source of the Ganga river. Worship place of Goddess Ganga.
  3. Kedarnath – Famous temple of Lord Shiva, located in the Himalayas.
  4. Badrinath – Temple of Lord Vishnu, also known as Badri Vishal.

When to go?

Char Dham Yatra starts every year around April or May and continues till October or November.
The best time to visit is May to June or September to October, when the weather is clear.

How to reach?

  • By rail and road: From Haridwar or Rishikesh, you can take a taxi, bus, or private car.
  • Helicopter service: For Kedarnath or Badrinath, heli services are available (booking on government portal).

Important tips

  • Air is thinner in the mountains, so if you have breathing or heart issues, consult your doctor first.
